Plans for Realizing Greenways for Oldham County Progress

The graphic to your left outlines the original grand vision of an interurban greenways for Oldham County.

That plan has slowly, but surely been progressing as a result of coordination between Greenways for Oldham County and Oldham County government.

The county is currently seeking a $350,000 grant from the Kentucky Department of Transportation for Transportation Enhancement funding to support a critical 3.2 mile stretch of trail along Commerce Parkway in the LaGrange and Buckner areas.

The planned path would provide a safe place for pedestrians and bicyclists without the use of highways and present an exercise option to residents.  Moreover, it provides multiple options for future connectivity to planned developments to include Eden Park, and a planned new elementary school and subdivision on Allen Lane.

Why Commerce Parkway:

Connection to Oldham County Businesses and Community Destinations:  Commerce Parkway is a planned business sector to which the trail will provide direct access.  The Oldham County Health Department, LaGrange Post Office, planned new Oldham County library, and a proposed elementary school will be linked by the trail.  Additionally, the proposed overpass to Eden Park promises additionally connectivity to the trail.

Future Developments:  Commerce Parkway will be home to several commercial, residential, and mixed use developments.  The Oldham County Planning and Zoning office is working closely with developers to promote connectivity of the developments to the Oldham County Bike and Pedestrian Trail.

Bike and Pedestrian Area Connections:  Kentucky Hwy 53, Kentucky Hwy 393, and the New Moody/Allen Lane Overpass are being designed to include bike lanes:  Commerce Parkway will serve as a connector with these new projects.

Park and TARC Facilities:  Commerce Parkway is home to the successful TARC Park and Ride.  The trail connection to these locations would serve as another alternative mode of transportation for Oldham County commuters.

The three components of Phase 1 of the Oldham County Bike and Pedestrian Trails project include the following:
